Laila Majid

Working across image, video and sculpture, Laila Majid’s practice can be situated within slimy liminal zones - including those between synthetic and natural, and optic and haptic. She explores the ways in which the body actives and is activated by surfaces, materials, images and objects, frequently looking to the materials of fetishwear such as latex, leather and plastics, used in order to transform the body, embody a given character or role, and to actualise fantasies. Investigating such transformative processes enables her to interrogate both the boundaries of the corporeal form, and the desire to move and shape- shift beyond these boundaries.
