Jessica Parnell

Born 1980, Shoreham by Sea, Jess Parnell is an artist based in the UK and online. A graduate in the BA Fine Art at Westminster, and the MA in Art Psychotherapy at Goldsmiths University; She is a multi-media artist whose practice has encompassed sculpture, drawing, performance, video-making, installation, and poetry. She works professionally as an Art Psychotherapist, specialising in addictions treatment. As an artist Jess works in connection with liminal states of experience; transformation, stagnation and growth. Meaning, Art in spontaneous action, the process, mess, slap-stick, humour, carelessness, intuition and slap-dash execution. In direct and indirect ways her artistic practice draws into play aspects of psychoanalytic theory, folklore, ritual, alchemy, dream, and myth. These provide essential food for her own creative ‘senses’ and inward and outward connection. The making of her work is as much about creating meaning, making sense and non-sense out of existence as it is a spiritual journey.
