Artist, Clown
a.k.a / part of
Plowman & Cummins
Cailin Cummins is an artist and one half of experimental clown duo ‘Plowman and Cummins’ (with Sally Plowman). Using surreal visual elements, physical theatre and splintered narrative, they integrate clowning and performance art. They are interested in a slapstick revival, thinking about how the grotesque and violent can reject neutrality and upturn gendered etiquette. They like falling over covered in shaving foam, turning the world upside down and bringing everyone with us. They see clowning as a radical position, where skilled chaos can threaten the status quo.
Plowman & Cummins met studying BA Fine Art at the Slade School of Fine Art (2020/2022). They have shown performances across fine art and alternative comedy contexts, including Beaconsfield Gallery, London 2025; Juxtapose Art Fair, Aarhus 2025; Supermarket Independent Art Fair, Stockholm 2025; Queerfest, Norwich 2025; Hey Mum, London 2024; Nunhead Mini Fringe 2023. They occasionally perform for children, including the Great Cressingham Duck Race, Norfolk 2025, and The National Gallery’s Summer on the Square (with former clown troupe ‘Hot Wood’), London 2023.
